Shrimad Bhagavad Gita Chapter 1, Sloka 1

Shrimad Bhagavad Gita, also known as the "Song of the Lord," is one of the most important Hindu scriptures and is considered to be a summary of all the Hindu philosophical concepts. The Gita consists of 18 chapters and a total of 700 verses and is a part of the larger Hindu epic, the Mahabharata.

Chapter 1, Sloka 1 is the opening verse of the Gita and it introduces the setting of the dialogue between Lord Krishna and Prince Arjuna that takes place on the battlefield of Kurukshetra. The verse states that the dialogue takes place in the "dharma-kshetre," or the place of righteousness, and "kuru-kshetre," the field of Kuru, which is the site of the battle between the Pandavas and the Kauravas.

The verse also mentions Arjuna, the main character of the Gita, who is depicted as a great warrior prince. He is conflicted and overwhelmed by the thought of having to fight against his own family and friends and is seeking guidance from Lord Krishna.

In the verse, Arjuna addresses Lord Krishna as "Janardana," which means "one who causes people to take birth." Arjuna is asking Lord Krishna what the people are doing, who have assembled for battle, and what the Pandavas are doing.

The first verse of the Gita sets the stage for the rest of the scripture, where Lord Krishna will provide Arjuna with wisdom and guidance to help him overcome his doubts and fears and see the true nature of reality. The Gita is revered as a spiritual guide for millions of people around the world and its teachings have had a profound impact on Hindu philosophy and spirituality.
