2022 FIFA World Cup qualification – UEFA Group B

Introduction

The 2022 FIFA World Cup will take place in Qatar, 24 June to 17 July 2022. A total of 31 teams have been confirmed for the tournament. 16 places are determined by continental champions, with each continental association allowed two entries without regard to gender or age restrictions (with only two exceptions: host Asia will enter one team and Oceania will enter one team). The remaining 21 places are decided by qualifying tournaments held around the world from August 2020 onwards with the winners of these tournaments entering play-offs against teams from other confederations in order to determine which nations qualify directly for the finals tournament.

The group winners qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification groups were decided on 5 October 2015.

The top two teams in each group will qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. In addition, the best third-placed team will also advance to play in Qatar, but only if they do not get a direct entry into the 2020 UEFA European Nations League (UEFA Nations League).

The winners of each group qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

In order to be eligible for participation in Euro 2020/2022 it is necessary that at least one team from each national association participates in qualifying.[1]

The draw took place on 19 September 2018 at 13:00 CET (UTC+2).[2]

The four best second-placed teams from Groups B and D will play off to decide who will face Group A's runners-up in the final round of European qualification, which is also scheduled for 2020. This means that if Croatia beat Italy on June 10th (or more likely, if they lose), then it's almost certain that they'll qualify for next summer's finals; likewise with France if they beat England at home on Sunday night or go down by a single goal away from home against Iceland (who won't qualify).

Germany and Czech Republic are the highest ranked teams in this group according to FIFA world rankings. The other three teams can all qualify for the World Cup finals, but it depends on how they perform in their remaining matches. There is a possibility that Belgium could qualify for the World Cup Finals if they finish above France and Croatia (both have 2 points).

Conclusion

Germany and Czech Republic are the highest ranked teams in this group according to FIFA world rankings but any of these 5 teams could qualify for the world cup finals. Germany finished runner up at 2018 FIFA World Cup and will be looking to win their first international trophy since 2002 when they won Euro 2004. If they can beat the other European contenders then they will go through with ease as they have a good run-in schedule ahead of them.
